Default tachometer

1992 f250 7.3 ford diesel tachometer registering zero. will this affect/harm the motor and or transmission

It will not affect the motor, but it can affect the transmission if you happen to have the 4spd automatic, E4OD I believe. The E4OD uses the tach signal to shift gears. If you have the older C6 or any manual transmission, you won't have any issues.
