Default Block Heater Question

I read somewhere that block heaters on old 6.9's can cause the blocks to crack. But Im not sure about mine because it is a 1987.

Any ideas?

It will make life 10xs easier with cold starting.

Yes, it has a risk of block failure, I believe there were preventatives you can do to lessen the likelyhood, but I do not know what they are

In 1985 they made the casting thicker around where the block heater is to prevent the cracking problem.
