I have an 85 f250 4x4 4speed witha 6.9 diesel the other day was pulling a trailer into town stopped at a stop sign then when i tried to take off i had nothing and started rolling backwards. i locked my hubs in and got moved outa the way in 4wheel drive..there is no grinding or noise in my rearend when i roll the truck in neatral, my drivelive spins fine. then while loading it on a trailer i realised my right axle had slid out about and inch....??? anybody have any ideas what it might be? any ideas would be great!!

Thanks for the reply..still havent even had a chance to pull my diff cover off to see whats gong on..ha its still parked on my trailer...i just wanted to have a lil bit of an idea what it could be before i go tearing into it will sure let ya know when i do get a chance to pull it apart

 

yeah it sounds like u may have broken a side gears or the main pin came out ...... hopefully its an easy one for ya...

 

I agree with 4x4 most likely just some worn out spider gears and its age is catching up with it

 

im hoping its just that main pin...heck the motor has 106000 miles on it ha if only the truck holds together the engine will last me forever
