Default trany swaps

Hi got a a 90 7.3, good strong motor with only 130k on it. It has a e40d in it now but I would like to stuff a 4-5 speed manual in it, having trouble finding a donor. Was wondering if the 460 gasser trany would bolt up or is there an adapter that I would need, or if there is any other manuel that would bolt up without a bunch of spendy adapters.

I realize that its a total pain to swap from automagic to manual, however the reliability of a manual is more important to me then babying the auto.

In reality an older granny low trany would be ideal, say from a 70's furd, I don't spend much time on the freeway, its a rare day that I can go over 60mph... the truck will do it, just not while driving over the people in front of me.

I'm not sure whats needed to swap in a NP435(70s Ford) but I know it can be done. A T-19 4 speed from a 83-86 6.9 would be a bolt in deal. You can use the transfer case you have already(if 4x4) and don't have to change driveshaft length. A 460 gasser trans would need holes drilled in the correct locations on the bell housing to work.

Well then, if its just a few holes, that's no problem at all, Machinist by day. As long as the big ugly starter lines up and the cross member fits, sounds like a plan, drive lines can be cut stretched and skewed fairly cheap near by.

Double check a 460 4 speed if that's the route you're going. I know on a 460 ZF5 new holes need drilled. There's at least one good thread on here about swapping from an auto to manual, so you might try a search for more info.
