Default 6.9 oil cooler questions

in the process of buying an 85 rclb 4x4 with 6.9 t-18 and 3.54 gears only paying 1400 bucks for it and the body is a solid 9/10 the problem is that oil is leaking into the coolant and i remember they guy sayig that either him or his friend (the previous owner before him) re o-ringed the oil cooler if the problem is the o-rings then its no issue to just o-ring it and go on but if it is say the core itself can i block off the oil cooler and run an external cooler up front using one of the plates that screws onto the oil filter threads

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

just realized that the oil filter screws on to the rear piece of the oil cooler but i could make two plates the have welded on fittings for both coolant and oil and have the oil run through a remote filter and then through this heat exchanger all for about 200 dollars less than the replacement core 26.4 GPM Return Line Heat Exchanger | Princess Auto

i had to do the same thing, core had pinholes all over it, from rust of course. got a new core from mr. cool for about $200, and the gasket and oring kit for around $20. put the orings on pressed the end caps on, bolted it on, and good as new.

just buy a new core for next to **** all.

Edit:
I dunno how you are running that cost to get a core for it. that's nuts.
