Sudden Boosts of power then rough idle and dies...intermittenly
This is my second ford idi. like this one better then my first one. Turbo makes a slight difference. Starts fine, runs fine with lots of power (for an idi). puffs some black smoke on takeoff. 202k on motor and auto trans. Gets good milage for extended cab 4x4 truck with 4:10 gears. Rear tank leaks so use the front tank.
Sudden Boosts of power when accelerating (not like turbo boost sudden) then immediate rough idle and dies if you dont throttle it up... this happens intermittenly usually after it is warm. This is not a sudden issue it has been slowly building up to this.
no apparent leaks on return line injector hats. Plan to install a clear fuel line to get a visual on the fuel in various arreas. New fuel filter and cheapo airtex lift pump.
I have checked the fuel filter after the issue occured on day near my house and it was full. Hit the check valve to see if any air was presant in the system had enough pressure to hit the opposite site of the engine bay. So that leads me to believe there is fuel present at the injection pump.
haven't ran any diesel kleen or additive in a while my see if that cleans it up some.
Things I plan to check...
Air in fuel lines utilizing clear lines in various locations
Tank Switch
Let me know if any one has any Ideas. I will post back with results.
