Idi diesels are much cheaper to maintain than newer diesels. Parts are much cheaper as well. My advice...join a more active idi forum, and ask away

That may ne true if the truck already ran as has the op has stated going to 1500 he can do which sounds like its.pushing it. No point in lying 1500 for a yard ornament if you can't drive it kt afford parts for it.

With what the OP posted, we have to assume that it stopped running after filter was changed...Problem there would most likely be air in system...(easy fix)...glow plugs are a normal wear item..while of course there are horror stories about them swelling up, I've had only one stuck in (out of the 8 total idi engines I've had) and was able to wiggle it out...brand new motorcraft/beru glow plugs are less than 10$ each. Talk him down a few hundred and sounds like you will get a good deal
