Default ? For Guys With Straight Pipes

Did you just go to a muffler shop and have them do it or did you buy a Muffler Elimination Pipe from somewhere and either do it yourself or then have a shop install it?

I was going to order a pipe and do it myself but with shipping and everything it comes out to like $70 but I met a guy here who said a local shop did the whole deal for $75, so I'm thinking I'll just let a shop do the whole thing.

What did you guys pay for yours? Does $75 sound like a good deal?

The guy that I talked to, didn't mention what size pipe they used and I didn't crawl under there to look...Didn't think of that, guess I'll make sure they do it right when I go.

Mine was done in a shop but by the hubby so it just cost me materials (well the labor cost me but in other ways ). I ran 5" pipe straight back.

$75 sounds about right for 4" at the shop.

I always have a shop do it, clamped and welded. I am lucky since I am good buddies with the guy that owns the shop and I 'test' alot of muffler setups so he does mine for about $25. He has the only 4" machine in our town and does fabulous work.

I was lazy took it into the muffler shop in town so far they have done an exhaust on every rig I got. I say if they can bend the right size pipe then have them do it.

The exhaust I bought had an extra pipe for a Crew Cab Long Bed, I used that piece to delete my muffler.

Straight Pipe Exhaust

Another simple enhancement that don't cost a bunch of money is straight pipe the exhaust. Beware in some states it is illegal to be without a muffler. Now in some states a turbo is considered a muffling device. Some people think it just to loud. I will admit that without the muffler in place is it louder. I've been told that my truck can be heard up to a mile away.

Now besides the noise and legal stuff. The bonus to straight piping the exhaust is that the engine can breathe easier. It will reduce the pyrometer temperature, increase horsepower and torque, and increase your fuel mileage.

Basically all you need to do is measure how long the full muffler assembly is and get a piece of 3" exhaust pipe and maybe a new set of clamps. Once you got the pipe have them expand the ends so they will fit over the existing pipe. So now when you do this you going to have to fight a little to get the old muffler and resonator off. I used a torch to heat the clamp spots up to get the muffler assemble off. Then slide in your new pipe and clamp it down.

I've welded in some re-bar hanger to mount back in the rubber hanger on the frame to help hold the pipe up.
