Default 5.9 Muffler Or Not

I was wondering if i could run strait pipe on my 06 cummins without any side affects. I have a turbo-back 5" kit with muffler now but, not load enough! Also, i put a smarty downloader on the truck and in higher levels it sounds like their is excess engine noise when I open up the throttle! Is this too much timing or nothing to worry about?

Muffler has been off of mine sine it had 1200 miles now at 47k. Wouldn't have it any other way. Take that puppy out.

Be sure you keep that muffler and cat though in case you need it down the road when the smog laws strike.

Guys I am new to the diesel world and have to start learning all over again after being a Rock Climbing Jeeper since 1997 and got pretty knowledgeable about Jeep modificatiuons.

I bought a 2006 Dodge Quad Cab with a 5.9 L Cummins as my Toy Hauler. I am confused??? If I removed the muffler off my Jeep I would get a traffic ticket from the first cop that I pass or the first one that passes me.

I read many times about you guys removeing the mufflers and some times the CAT also. What is the difference ?? How an you get by with it in a diesel truck but not a gas pick-up truck??

Please enlighten this "newbie"

Thanks guys,
Jim

You may or might still get a ticket with a diesel but I havent heard of it very often. Diesels without mufflers are quite common and no where near as loud as a gasser. I ussually run a muffler (aftermarket) but always remove the cat. We dont have any emmissions testing here, so I can get away with it.....

Even cops dont like gassers...
