Jim it's mostly a local thing. Most emission rules only are written for gas. Where I live I don't have to do emissions so I dropped my cats. As for the muffler...we have a DB law here that could get me if I really pissed off a cop some where.

For us the only ticket they can give is for a noise violation and until they take Harley off the road, im going to court and getting off.....By the way, I have never gotten a noise violation ticket without a muffler.

As for me I've been straight piped for over 3 years now...

But its rather kind of hard to give a noise violation ticket to a Dodge Truck that is responding to a fire at 75-85 MPH... You got to catch me first...

Here is my write up on my striaght pipe...

Maybe you should consider joining your local fire dept or search and rescue group...
Best part is I know where all the cops are... I'm always packing Mr. Kenwood (handhled radio) with me. Scanners work rather good too...

But Honestly I've never had a problem from local or state cops with my striaght pipe yet... Even when I go to larger cities like Boise, ID I behave myself like a white boy and no problems. My windows are even illegal tinted (25%) and never had a problem with that either...

Basically if you act like an **** the law will be following you for sure...

The newer trucks may need this mufflereconmy to make them sound cool but be warned about the smog police, your warranty and that sort of thing.

Default 5.9 Muffler Or Not

Well, As of today I now have 5" stainless exhaust with no muffler or cat! Man is it loud!!!
I'll have to run it a while and see if I like it! Thanks for all of the input. I'll try to make a video of it and post it.

RSWORDS had that same problem with his. i believe he contacted the people at smarty and they had him download a new program in it and man does his truck haul tail.... i think it'll hand my trucks rearend to me without even breakin' a sweat.....

and on the exhaust i had a straight pipe on my stacks, it sounded awesome but it got old real quick.... put a muffler back on and i can now hear myself think again....
