Cummins Lift Pump Upgrade
Keep Your VP44 Injection Pump AliveIn our "Order of Modifications" article (see page 88), we set out to determine which parts we should add first to our '02 Dodge Ram 3500. We quickly learned that the biggest exhaust, most aggressive tune, and best intake wouldn't mean anything if we couldn't deliver fuel to the engine. The factory engine-mounted Carter lift pump was letting us down in a big way. It only made 5 psi of fuel pressure at idle and dropped to zero under load. Lift pumps are relatively inexpensive, but when they fail on a 24-valve Cummins, it often takes out the VP44 injection pump at the same time. These injection pumps cost more than $2,000, which is money we would rather spend upgrading our truck for improved performance. We set out to find a reliable and affordable solution to this common problem.

I wish I had gotten news of this before my lift pump went south for the winter (and stayed there). I never noticed anything until the "stumble" or the "miss" at highway speeds. Anyways, the AirDog should fix that problem. Fingers crossed that the already replaced IP isnt destroyed again. If it is, here come the mods!

flowmax
hi guys ..
wow that flow max is 470$$
that s a lot ..
any other choices out there....
there has to be a good mid range choice..
someone said.. get a big rig one at nappa... whats that...semi trucks..
Q...WHATdoes cummins suggest..??
iT does sound good to stay away from diaphragm type..
Q....has anyone ever mounted 2 pumps...say cheap/mid nappa ones...
with warning lites..
chances of both going at same time would be remotes..
could put them in line of each other...
also Q....what about an in line water separater /filter like i use on my boat..
they are the size of oil filter.... twist off /on
Q....where is my oem pump located on 98 24v
cheers
