I cant tell if antthing is going on with the dip stick or the fill tube with the fan blowing air. I cant feel anything going in or out of the dip stick.

If the rear main needs to be replaced, does the oil pan need to come off for that?

Shouldnt, you should just pull the tranny and the flywheel and replace the seal

So you are saying the seal can be replaced with the tranny out and the oil pan still on? The truck has 215,000 miles on it. It is just wishfull thinking on the vent tube. Hoping for the easy fix.

yeah the rear main seal is what goes around the crankshaft to keep all the oil that is in the crank case from pouring out the back...shouldnt have to mess withe oil pan other then training the oil from the block like you would at any other oil change

To pull that vent just pull the hose clamp to the down pipe and get that out of your way and then the big black thing just threads off. If you have to as long as your careful you can stick a screwdriver in it and turn it. Better if you can do it by hand though. Then you can just spray some brake cleaner through the mesh in it to clean out any residue oil and grime that may be clogging it up.
