Default Waste Gate Settings

Okay with my POD's and my Silver 62 the truck ran around 52-54psi, had pretty good spool up. Put in my 6x16's, pegged the 60psi gauge, spool up was OK.

Pulled the turbo off to turn down the waste-gate, leaghtened the rod about 7 turns (was told this should drop me around 14psi). Now spool up SUCKS!!! It does OK to about 14psi then it starts to get real smokey and the spool up stops, I assume this is were the waste gate is starting to open now. Problem is it still boosts to 50psi! take it a couple seconds to get there but it still goes up... WTF!!!

I want my OK spool up back and around 45psi. I'm afraid if I shorten the rod some more I'll get my spool back but still be pushing 60psi.

Thoughts?

you change the timing when you added the new injectors?

sounds like you have too much fuel bobby..... maybe you need to port the wastegate hole on the exhaust housing, the flapper is way bigger than the hole, you can open it up and it will help with over boost, also you can cut the divider out of the manifold or the turbo inlet (i would do the manifold as it won't affect the value of the turbo) so you will be wastegating all 6 cyls, and not just 3 as it is now. if all else fails you need an external wastegate.....

bigger wg could help. he could hook up a drive pressure gauge and see whats goin on in them manifold. idealy you want drive and boost pressure to be 1:1

the turbo he has should be a 1:1 up to about 50-55psi, after that it increases ALOT. why he is running over 30PSI without an intercooler is beyond me.

cut the divider on the exhaust manifold, or if you want i can send you my stock manifold for you to experiment with. it is doing nothing but cost me extra fuel to lug this boat anchor in the back of my truck....

and for quicker spoolup you might want to advance the timing a little bit more than where it is now...

if you are pegging a 60 pound gauge the cure for your problem is a 100 pound boost gauge......and you need to stop being a sally *** and drive the truck like it should be......
