The ones who have had manuals tyranny's and gone to an auto did you regret it and why. For those of you who have autos and went a manual are you glad that you did or did you regret it. The reason I am asking this is I have located a 2004 quad 4X4 dually auto Laramie with 28000 miles for $21k. My truck is a stick and I would prefer to stay with a manual but for the price of the truck would it be worth looking at. If you have an auto how well does it pull an anything else you can add as far your experience with an auto. If you have a manual I would like to hear from you as well.

I would have an auto in a second if I could afford the upgrades to it but I can't so there is no way I would have one. In my world that's what it comes down to. In the factory condition they just don't handle the torque these Cummins Monsters produce if you start addin upgrades to the truck.

 

x2. The autos cost money to build, but I'm going to be switching mine. So far I haven't had crap for reliability on the 4500 manual and the price to fix/upgrade it gets me pretty far into a built auto.

Obviously you wouldn't be getting the 4500 in that year, but I'm just making my personal point that I'm not impressed with the *reliability* of a manual and they aren't THAT cheap to fix/upgrade

 

it depends on your use and power i have a suncoast 48re and it has not held up to towing or power and im not a real high hp truck soo i think that a good stick with a good clutch is by far the way to go not to mention the better mpg out of the stick

 

Just depends what you want and how you use it I think. I had an 02 six speed, got sick of shifting gears in city traffic so I bought an 06 auto. Then I moved away from the city and only used the 06 for pulling my camper, so I hated the auto and got the 08 manual.

Daily driver is my Chevy with an auto. Pulling the camper or just when I feel like taking it for a spin, it's the Dodge six speed manual.

 

when it comes to pulling the manual is the best way to go. daily driving would be the manual

 

i drive a chevy auto for work, and boy o boy am i ever so glad to slip( ok maybe hop) into my dodge and start slamin gears. i get so sick of the truck shiftin when it shouldn't and not shiftin when i feel it should. i am always reachin for the clutch and grabin my coffee cup by accident. i pull regulary with both trucks and i would stick with the manual hands down. i wouldn't trade up shiftin gears for anything in the world. if i lost my left leg, i would hook up a hand clutch somehow. i never personally owned an auto, but i have seen the bills pile up from my work trucks, and only ever put two clutch's in the 8 vehicals i had.

 

Unless your going to Drag race keep your manual.

the new 68 are very good trannys. i have had autos in the past and hated them but i love this one in 08
