I know this has been a broken record lately but-
If we all modified a diesel and it didn't smoke we wouldn't be in this mess right now. I guarantee you the reason they aren't cracking on gassers like they are on diesels is because of the smoke issue. Most politicians seem to go by the rule that if they can't see it then it doesn't exist.
Remember, it's the government. It doesn't have to make sense; it just has to make somebody feel good.

Smoke or no smoke, it has to do with the EPA and mandating that diesels burn cleaner and that brought on the issues of DPFs, Sensors and EGR systems causing all of these headaches. I don't blame Dodge for this at all and I'm sure the other manufactuers will do the same. You know all the people that bomb their truck and when something goes wrong they expect them to cover it under warranty! Hence this wording in the TSB: "Up-Rate kits are numerous and may include aftermarket software downloads. Engines that have had tampering will generate excess soot and may damage the Turbocharger, Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and Oxygen Sensors (O2) and/or other emission system(s), air handling or fuel control components." They are sick of paying for owners F*%K ups. I know when I bomb my truck, I am my own warrenty and take responciblity for things caused from the extra power being produced. If you wanna play, you gotta pay. But now on a side note that sucks you can't bomb the new ones period but they is always a way around everything. Like Bobby said, its all ones and zeros.

Yes, but the EPA would be all over the diesels now if it werent for all the goons going around smoking out all the prius owners. Which in turn bytch and whine about diesel emissions.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease. If everyone wasnt complaining about getting smoked out we likely wouldnt be seeing this kind of stuff.
But, their is always a way around this kind of BS. If not for a programmer that can get around it their will likely be an aftermarket ECM available!

I got a headache out of the EPA's required update for my 01 Dodge, increased the smoke output considerably from what it was before. Lowered to NOX, increased the soot. That has to be good for the engine. At least I can bypass the bloody thing with my Edge Comp and get good timing and fuel mileage that way. What really po'd me was the fact that I had the truck in to a dealer for something else and they flashed the truck without asking and charged me for it.
