Lightbulb Pumps

I have little knowage of diesel engines,But am trying to learn. I read on here people asking about bigger pumps & lift pumps. when they go with bigger injector. Is that pretty much just the older cummins engines. I have a 07 with the 6.7, say if I wanted to go with 50hp injectors are the newer CTD fuel system good enough to run these, without updating pumps?

newere and older skip the p-pumps from 94-98.5 they get enough fuel as it is no need for an upgraded lift pump just my 2 cents

yeah the 94-98.5 dont require a aftermarket lift pump they got enough fuel, the 98.5-2002 trucks fuel system just plain out sucks IMO and i have one the stock lift pump goes out early and often and takes the $1000 Injection pump with it..the 2003-present have the Cp3 pump that feeds the rail with fuel and then supplies the injectors from one common place which is where you get Common Rail from...

Now to answer your question you should be fine with putting 50 horse sticks in it, but i would also recomend that you go ahead and get an aftermarket lift pump just because and its a good place to start on your mod trail and a fuel pressure guage going to the Injection Pump and also a rail pressure guage even though the sticks should not drain the rail pressure below what its supposed to have

OK Thanks guys..stkdram55 thx for takin the time to explain to me whats what about the common rail. I'm still a little confussed tho.. whats the lift pumps purpose? Is it to get fuel out of the tank to the other pump? It takes 2 pumps to get fuel to motor...Sorry said I didn't know much

yeah the lift pump does just what it name implies, it lifts the fuel out of tank and supplies the injection pump with fuel for the engine

its ok we all started somewhere..

Yeah the airdog and FASS are lift pumps, but some of the models come with filters and some do not, FASS actually stands for Fuel Air Separation System which is the ones with the filters, the ones with out filters are just called HPFP (High Presure Fuel Pumps i believe)but people call them all FASS because they are made by the same company and just supply the fuel and let the stock fuel filter do its job...when ya get the ones with the filters you can bypass the stock filter and just use the one on the new lift pump...

And yes the Injector pump is right on your engine if your looking at the engine from the front of your truck it will be on the right hand side right at the front of the engine, it might be kinda hard to see but its there you'll see a line going from it to the fuel rail, and also follow the lines from the fuel filter to it and there she be

I have the fass pump and what I like the most is the pump is mounted in the rear by the tank and pushes the fuel to the injection pump instead of pulling. It just seems to make more sense that pushing a liquid is better than trying to pull it when your trying to feed another pump
