Default Dead Pedal

So i was going up a rather large hill today. Pulling nothing, just driving, and i got dead pedal at around like 1500 rpm where it basically maxed out and wouldn't go over. So i was going like 25 up this flipping hill. I do not have the gauges up yet but they are sitting there, doing a lot of good i know. But it cant be VP right because truck wouldnt even run if that was the case, so I'm guess lift pump basically. But again, what do I know. Taking it in tomorrow. Any pre-day suggestions to what it might be?!

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

And I read about this and so far I guess this is what it might be. I tried to look into everything but I still wasnt sure.

With no guages to check it could be a few things. Could be LP, or VP but in my case I just needed to reset my APPS and that solved my intemitent dead pedal. Through the years it was just out of adjustment. This also helped out with EGT's a little bit also.

yea thats what the guy told me. he figured electronics. ill be getting the call tomorrow im sure as to the exact. not really looking forward to hearing everything. so can I get a deal on here for a VP?! i have seen some cheaper sites here and there. but of course everything is over 1000, well minus 2 sites I found. And what is core charge? What I can take off the total if its given to them or what I add?!?!?!

If you are going to replace the pump I would highly suggest not basing your decision of where to buy on just dollars alone. This is one item in particular where spending a few dollars more for after the sale support may just save you a lot of money in the end. If your gonna tap the pump wire there is only a few shops that will not void the warranty for this doing this. Blue Chip is one them as long as you use a cover plate to do it with. The only other shop that I know f is also one of our sponsors here, but sorry to you and them because I can't remember which one it was.

I would also suggest just tryin the APPS reset before you spend this money also. This fixed my intermitent dead pedal problem. This is also free and takes less then an hour to do so there is nothin to lose.

Did your mechanic tell you how he came to this conclusion of the pump. Did he find codes, or is he just guessing. VP problems are notoriously hard to diagnose and be certain about it in most cases. So sometimes it's better to rule the other things out first before you replace one of the most expensive single parts on our tucks.

Just my thoughts on it.

a core charge is what they add to your bill for the old piece.if it is the vp you can take it in after you take it off and they will take the core charge off your bill. Or they will just pay you what the core charge was if you already payed the bill.

The VP will live on without a LP but only for so long. My apps went out and its one of the "bend em over deals". You cant find it anywhere but the dealer. i work at NAPA and had to replace mine. I got it at cost for 400$

When mine went out i had no throttle at all what so ever. Just a sitting duck till i keyed away the codes.

To be sure you will need to get it scanned and being that it is a 99 you can't do the key on off thing to display them. You will see P1643 and P0216 and maybe even low voltage codes as well as even bad MAF and IAT codes but those aren't common.

It is very likely that your lift pump is dead. Face it, they do that - regularly if normal and this gets $$ if not careful. As stated the VP44 will last but only for a matter of months on it's own and if you know it is bad I won't tow with it or for that matter drive it if you can help it. VP44's are not cheap and frankly are getting difficult to come by now so be very careful who you buy it from. You will want to spend the extra $$ and get a rebuilt shuttle and case as well.

Now there is a chance, albeit slight that this is nothing more than a plugged fuel filter but this is not common - again, depriving the VP44 of fuel is a bad, bad thing.

Do yourself a favor and look at the site sponsors here for a FASS or an Air Dog fuel system to replace that OEM lift pump. You may be surprised at the price but you will not be dissappointed.

Good info right there.

While you are at it - pick yourself up some guages (especially a fuel pressure guage).
