wide out is exactly a blizzard ......they are both owned by the same company now ....meyers as well........kinda like MTD makes 99 % of riding mowers out there i believe the company is DM or DMT something - - - forgive me for not knowing exactly the name....they had to buy blizzard because of copyright issues...........

ive never pushed a blizzard but have a good friend who swears its the best thing ever made.....if i could get blizzard\wide out power extensions on a BOSS pro VXT id be a very happy man ....hhhhhmmmmmmm i smell a project commin on ...

im not allowed to like anything but BOSS at my place of employment but my cousin pushes a yellow plow the starts with fisher and ends with extreme Vee......and its a very impressive plow............but i stand by my BOSS till death do us part

Difference is that a Blizzard is not power out and angle, it's all mechanical depending on blade position, not on hydraulics. The wideout can be controlled independently. I don't think the Blizzard can be pushed out to the 10 foot mark either like the wideout. Might be wrong here, but all of the literature I have read points to this.

The Western is the same as the Blizzard. Douglas Dynamics (parent company of Western and Fisher) bought Blizzard 3 years ago so now all 3 are under one corprate umbrella, notice that they dont compete against each other. Blizzard is still operated as its own company, as are western and fisher. they 810 design, lightened it up and weakened it in the critical areas that should not have been lightened up and put them on the market in red as a western and yellow as a fisher. they are still good plows, but they do not compare structurally to the blizzard powerplow.

I am a member of plowsite and Lets talk snow that are both community fourm sites like this one. if you want to see what the true potential of the powerplow is check out the blizzard powerplow that is modified by Jerre Herre of Jerre's Services in Erie PA. they are known as an Erie Special. and each one comes numbered and warrantied by his shop since the manf warranty is voided by the mods... if i remember correctly they remove the Hyd block, drill the ports larger, increase the Hyd pressure to speed things up and allow the positioning of heavier loads of snow. then they remount the Hydraulic block "upside down" from the manufacturers position to make all the hoses the same length and easily accessible to make repairs and service easier as well as allowing a driver to only carry 1 length repair hose in his/her emergency kit. he truly has built a better mousetrap.

The one you are thinking of is the Speedwing a different blade that blizzard introduced 2 or 3 years ago it is a straight blade with wings that when straight is in the scoop position but when angled the trailing wing (discharge side) falls back inline with the moldboard to windrow farther away from the truck while the leading wing stays angled to help control topside spillout. it is a completley different monster than the powerplow.

The blizzard powerplow design came out in 1999 (i think) while the speedwing came out in mid 2008 as a 2009 model plow.

Douglas Dynamis ownd Western , Fisher, and Blizzard. Meyer is still its own company and VERY MUCH in competition with them.... it is exactly like the Ford-Chevy thing.

I would LOVE to have a Blizzard but they dont make a V-plow. My next one is gonna be a poly power-VXT. I will NEVER own another Sno-Way. if you want to know why search my screen name on PLOWSITE.

Thanks Boss3500, I just might take you up on that. I just really wish that someone else would offer a plow with downpressure like Sno-way. It truly is "The $h!t"

at over 1200# my plow is not light. while Snoway does make very lightweight plows for the small truck and SUV market they also make big truck plows too. I have owned Westerns, run a boss-V and have plowed along side Boss, meyer, fisher, curtis, Blizzard, saltdog, Hinniker and Norseman. the downpressure shines when there is hardpack, icepack, sleet, or the need to move piles. There are alot of things i dont like about my plow, but i continue to run it mostly because of the downpressure. it really is that much better.

I have a western cotractor grade 8' with the quick detachable scoop ends that bring it to 9' orinally put on my '95 gasser, now on this 01 diesel. working flawless for 4 yrs,not a wideout, but does a damn good for me & my customers. Food for thought I always raise the blade before I start the engine so ther is no heavy current draw while the alternator is cycling up&down after starting.
