The problem with trying to make a living with a 2500 or 3500 pickup is, they're are tons of people out there that will do work for next to nothing with their truck on their off time. I imagine it would be hard to operate full time against "diesel pickup johnny" down the street that is just looking for someone to pay his fuel so he can tow something with his big bad truck.

Then again I could be wrong, it's happened before.

i use my truck for hauling our equipment around. I haul our mini excavator, backhoe and our 350 Jd dozer. that s occasionally. i use my truck on weekends to haul my mowing equipment around so i can make extra cash besides what work pays me. So i guess that could count for a living? Because until summer hits I am living off that money made mowing. In the winter i snowplow with a diesel truck...... but it is with a work truck that is a ford

Truckin is what keeps diesel in the tank, and money in the bank for me! I might be young but i have been investing my money since i was knee high to a tadpole. The result is know i have 3 functional trucks with a array of trailers. What i make the most money off of is my flatbed trailer with dove tail ramps. The possibilities are endless with that. The type of trailer that makes me a lot of money also is my enclosed stock trailer. You can haul livestock or clean it out and put furniture and stuff in it too. But i like i said i have a contract hauling play equipment and also belong to the hay mafia, last i have flyers at the river so when guys blow up their stuff im on my way to come to the rescue. So you can make money with your truck

I would add to the discussion that if you're hauling other people's stuff for money, you probably should look at your insurance policy to see if you're covered for that kind of operation.

I will haul any trailer that will go behind my truck, or anything that will go on my own... But, I never charge for it, fuel only. Half of the time I'm recovering my buddy's 03 from some spectacular failure...
In the winter, different story, the Dodge makes me a fortune plowing snow, and half of the time the money is made just guaranteeing that I'm available to plow. I never ask for a retainer, but you'd be more than surprised how many people offer one... I had one road last winter that after the cost of fuel I was still over the $100/hr mark on....

FYI, "For Fuel" is considered "Compensation" by those who enforce laws.

That being said, I've been known to help the locals for bread, pizza, soda, whatever, but will take their $$$ to go get said bread, pizza, soda, or whatever for them to give to me, if they want me to.

It's not WHAT you say, but HOW you say it.

Mark.
