The inspector doesn't see your title all the see is your insurance. They don't put it on a dino so no screen to look at. Most of them don't care about the legitimacy of the vehicle they just want the money. The guys that do my inspection are two brothers from Armenia, and I talk to them about the diesel phobia here in the US and how I want to do a conversion. And I asked them what they would do. They said they would just treat it as a diesel.

Anyway I would just take it to an inspector, tell them its a diesel, and see what they say, and if they don't go for it try someone else till you get one who will just do it. When my inspector inspects my VW TDI all he does is check all the safety stuff an drives it.

 

Your state has the weirdest inspection system I've ever heard of. They don't check the VIN and pull up any records on the vehicle - or look at anything under the hood? Doesn't sound like an inspection to me - sounds more like a fee collection.

Wish ours were more like that...

 

Of course they look under the hood, Which wouldn't matter any way if your told them its a diesel,why would they need to look to confirm that. In Texas they don't do emission tests on diesels. So you tell them its a diesel, they look under the hood, see its a diesel, no emissions test on diesels. so they just do the rest. They check the insurance and or the vin, and it says gas, but most of them don't care so they just treat it as a diesel make the quick fee and pass it. The inspection is mostly to confirm all the safety requirements and emissions. except for diesels. Also it used to be that some counties in Texas didn't do emission tests on any vehicles.

And I know from reading these forums that the majority of states in the south and Midwest don't even have yearly inspections.

And as I said some places might be more reluctant to pass it, I'm sure some large franchised gas station, or Walmart would probably not pass it. But the average inspector wouldn't know if it was legal to have a diesel in that vehicle, or care.

 

im willing to bet that if you just put a fresh coat of paint on the engine and glued a jeep emblem on it they wouldnt know the difference as far as the year, im going to take mine today for inspection, this will be the second time with a dieselin it, im curious to see what they say.

ok they didnt even open the hood or turn the lights on, didnt honk the horn or even check to see if it had a muffler, bring it to texas...

 

I have a diesel f250 that is straight piped. They just drove it, and verified that all lights, and safety stuff was working correctly. didnt even look under the hood. Texas rules for diesels.

 

If a mechanic has to look under hood to tell it's a diesel he's not much of a mechanic

 

Did check inside the pipe for illegal imigrants?
