exhaust and turbo on 78 chev need ideas
So my truck I'm wrenching on is a 78 chevy 4 door it has a 5.9 5 speed divorced passenger drop 205 I've been getting closer and closer to getting this baby on the road I'm trying to figure out what to do with the exhaust before I get there. Currently it has an hx35 but I also have an he351 I could put on. Basically stock motor little timing bump second gen fuel pump and a denny t stage II pin. Would the 351 be better than the 35. I want to figure that out before I do the exhaust. It's gonna be a part time toy and hauler cows wood all sorts of stuff. I'm not gonna do tons more to the truck Basically there is no room for the exhaust with the divorced 205 to run the exhaust past it on the passenger side. I've found full 1st gen 4" kits for 270 but I don't think much of it will work for me but not sure never seen an actual pic of the kit to see if I could hack it up to use. I'm guessing I could cross it over to the driver side of the truck under the driveline between the transmission and the transfer case but just not sure. Been kicking around a hood stack but the legalities of it all I don't know. It's not a daily driver and there is no inspections/emissions here only gets driven on the weekends.

I haven't gotten that far on my conversion. I do not know much about the hx35 and he351 turbos so wouldn't know on that either. For the exhaust on mine though I have looked at it and thought of ideas and it will be a tight fit. The one thing I would gain you room is to index the transfer case some but if there is no lift on the truck there is no need to do that. A picture would always help to see your transfer case and the room your working with. You can't squeeze the pipe above the case between the body?

No room to squeeze by. I already don't like how low it hangs I wouldn't want to clock it any more. I also forgot I put a 3k governor spring in was just wondering opinions on if I should switch turbos since one has a 3" outlet and the other is a 4" outlet and I only want to build one exhaust. I like the 351 on my 98 24v just don't know if it would work good on this truck. I will get some pics here in a bit. I have three extra turbos laying around a spare hx35 hx35/40 and the he351.

I think the 351 might be a better option. Seems like it would perform better but may take a little more fuel to spool up. You have the 3gsk in it which should help. You might have too much air though but I wouldn't think so.
As for the exhaust would it be possible to route it to the outside of the frame rail. Only downside with that is if you have duel tanks that wouldn't work. If you can try and get an underside pic of your truck from engine back.

Ya I think I may do the 351 people seem to like them with the first gens it's not gonna be just a power truck I want a hauler descent mileage descent power. As far as the exhaust goes I forgot to take a pic I've been out working on steering and brakes half the day. The problem is since it's a divorced case the mount goes above it so there is no room I have been considering going outside the frame since it has one big tank out back like the suburban so no saddle tanks. I'm starting to think that may be the best and easiest option although I don't like junk hanging down below the frame I'm not planning on doing much rock crawling with the 20 foot long dually so it should be ok. Then just going through the bed with a single stack.
