om617 in a J-10?
Looking for opinions on how an om617 would power a 1/2 ton Jeep J-10 short bed.
Best I can determine, curb weight on an MB 300sd is apx 3,500 lbs. Cherokees appear to be popular for a transplant at 3,400 lbs curb weight. It appears the J-10 is around 3,900 lbs. Would that extra 400 lbs create a problem?
Seen a few J-10's with 4bt's but those motors are hard to come by around me.
Thanks.

The OM617 into a FSJ has been discussed over at the IFSJA site a bit. I think somebody put one into a Wagoneer. Overall I'd say it's way undo powered for a FSJ, even one that just a DD. Maybe if you put some effort into getting all the gearing strait it might no be too bad, but you'd probably loose most of your tow/haul ability. Also there is a whole ton of difference between the mid-size Cherokees(XJs) and any of the full-size Cherokees, Wagoneers, and J-trucks(SJs).
The people's favorite are the 6.2/6.5 NA Detroits. Grab a 6.5/700r4/np2xx combo and slap it into your FSJ. I'm not a fan of either engine, but from the builds I've seen, it's a simple swap.
