I had my adapter plates water jet cut by a local metal fab outfit. They only cut the main pattern and then I did all the dowel pin & bolt holes on the drill press at the house. I don't really have an off the shelf pattern that you could use. One of the problems will be the flywheel you use. The flywheel will change the width or thickness of the plates you will need..

I am planing to do this conversion once I find the right truck, but there isnt many 5speeds around here.
I've thought about an automatic but I don't know how the low RPM range these engines run would effect the auto transmission. I would stay with the 5 speeds, better control and not to mention the auto trans require more H.P. to operate. Just wait there will be a truck along soon, there are tons of S-10's out there and they are at the age where engines are failing.

Default In reference to Kabota S10 swap

This is in reference to the project you posted about the S10 Kabota swap. I am, and have been for quite sometime, working on the same project. I could use some advise (more than I have been able to access on the internet)

I am not the craftsman, machinist, engineer that you are, so I would have to find sources for that kind of thing. I'm thinking that if I could figure out the adapter, motor mounts, etc. I might be able to get something going. I don't have AC but do have power steering, alt, etc. The Z24d powered the diesel version and they are hard to find here. That's why I'm thinking swap.

Good luck!

I'm thinking along the same lines. I have a bare bones '86 Nissan hardbody, no accessories, don't even think it has power brakes. I got it from a guy that got hung up halfway through a ka24 swap from a '94, and the wire harness is a huge birdnest now. Would like to convert to a mechanical diesel for simplicity, reliability and better mileage.

So for the guys that have completed your swaps, how is the mileage holding up? Anyone in the 40+mpg range? Did the 2203 turbo version ever come in the reefer units, or would that be something to add on later? Is an inline pump better than rotary? Just wondering what I should look out for while shopping for a motor.

Thank you all for posting your builds, it's inspiring!

My Ranger has been my DD for over 2 months and I have experimented with final axle ratios and tire size. I have settled with 3.45 and 29in tires, averaging 40+ mpg. I have taken it on two road trips, 1st 1100+ mi, 44 best, 38.5 worst 65-75 mph. I average 36-38 in town. I am expecting better #s when the weather warms up. My motor runs very cool, even with a 195 t-stat. I don't belive that any V2203"s came turboed in reefers, I added it, fairly simple and I haven't intercooled it yet, still looking for the right unit. As far as the pump, this one is more than you need, as it will blow black smoke if you adjust it out too much. The gov spring swap is a must and turn out the rack limit screw, done!

Thanks for the update. Your Ranger is probably similar aerodynamics and weight to the Nissan. My driving will mostly be 45-55 mph as I do a lot of driving on backroads and rural highways. Doubt I'll ever take it on the interstate, wife might object to us and the baby in a small truck for 8+ hours. LOL. That mileage is very good, I could probably get similar by babying it. I will usually have several hundred pounds of tools in the bed, a tonneau cover and ~26" tires. Not sure what gears I have yet.

I might occasionally tow a small trailer, less than 2000 lbs, with a 4wheeler. Sounds like there is adequate power for that if I'm in no hurry. If it isn't enough truck I have a CTD.

Did either the ranger or s10 require the computer to run any part of the engine? I want to do this swap since theres a refer trailer company with tons of these engines for cheap a few miles away from me, but am kinda hesitant due to not knowing what all it requires from the electronic aspect. I can fab up accsesory plate, etc. Any straight up advice is appreciated, as i will be going to college for engineering and love doing projects that are as practical as they are fun. Thanks guys

I don't have any computer input, these motors only require 12v to the starter and fuel solonid. It may depend on what year truck you use how all the guages and speedo will work without the computer. The only thing I could not get to work is the tac.

Did you modify the manifold yourself to put a turbo on? or is there a stock one from a different model that interchanges? might as well get advice from experts who have done it and getting proven results. I want to be able to haul a 4-wheeler at the most so a turbo is gonna be a given

I just bolted the turbo to the stock manifold (I redrilled the turbo flange) using the two studs. I used one of the turbos off a Toyota supra, so it had a odd mounting flange. I just got lucky on this turbo suiting my needs, it was free so I had nothing to loose by trying it. Pulling a 4wheeler should be no problem. I just got done checking my mpg 365mi-9.6 gal =38.02, not bad for city!
