Hi Gang,

This is my first post other than my intro. When it comes to diesel I'm a FNG, so take it easy on me!

I'm new to diesel but I've been turning wrenches and doing swaps since I was a kid...

Anyway I have a '99 Jeep XJ that I have built in to a go anywhere camper for two.

My goal is to swap a OM617 in to it and run it on WVO.

Of course I have a bunch of questions!

I've read about a few earlier model XJ/OM617 swaps, but as of yet I have not found a swap with a '99. Anyone out there have one? Do you think that the '99 will present any more difficulty than an early XJ?

Although I've not managed to get it on a scale, I'd venture to say my truck is pretty heavy for an XJ. Can any one tell me about(or point me in to a link about) modding the OM617 for a bit more grunt? Of course I wouldn't want to do anything to hurt reliability...

I don't think there is any difference between yours and mine when it comes to fitting the motor. Cool camper!

 

Thats what I'm thinking too. I'll go poke around on NAXJA just to be sure.
I still have a bunch of research to do before I turn the first wrench!
Any thoughts on increasing the power of OM617?
How about info on which version of the engine is best and what cars it came in??
