Removing a cab 2004 F-150???
I am in the process of removing the cab on my 2004 F-150 to start the process of swaping the 5.4 gasser out for a 4BT and seemed to have hit a snag.
I do not have a 2 post lift and the actual process of lifting off the cab is what the problem is. I know that is I use 2 skid loaders I can lift it off but I was hoping there might be another way to do this or say a cheaper lift for something just like this.
Any feedback would be great because lifting it off with a skid loader can be difficult and almost should I say difficult.
Thanks
Nic

I've taken them off myself by lifting one side at a time, and cribbing it. Then roll the frame out from under it. I built a framework on castors for removing car bodies from frames while in the garage, and I can roll the frame in and out as I need to work on it. Still only use one stall of the garage.

If you semi-strip it, a few friends can get it done. They won't come back to help you get it back on though...
We used about 6 of us to lift off my Ranger cab. A lift to replace the new cab. We were not fussy about the old one, and it was stripped to make it as light as possible. It was still a load, but doable. 8 guys could get it done. I've also lifted them by running a strap through the open windows with a tractor and loader. Otherwise, you are facing making or borrowing an A-frame lift, renting some lift time (probably the best idea) or whatever you can accomplish with the loaders.

Hi ; Planning the same thing with a 01 f150.. gonna try the backhoe of a 426 cat. I think it should lift it. It should be easy to manipulate with the hoe boom? I hope! It is an extended cab so it is a little heavy.
I do think taking the cab off is the way to go, cause when I pop the hood it looks pretty tight in there.
