Default Diesels are not all equal...

howdy all!...I wanted to point out a discovery I learned yesterday...I just got my IH running again and believe it or not my diesel has no glow plugs...I was under the impression that all diesels had them...I was wrong, so now I am asking myself why they didn't do that in smaller diesel truck, Ford, Dodge and Chevy?...my truck fires right up and comes to an idle right away...my Dad's Dodge you have to wait a few seconds to start it...maybe the CR is much lower in these trucks then the heavier trucks have...anyway I was just sharing some thoughts.

Well my Cummins has no glow plugs either. They use grid heaters now. When it's cold out you still have to wait, but once it is warm out or the truck is warmed up there is no waiting at all I remember my first Diesel which was a 88 Ford had glow plugs I know that's crazy What was I doin with a Ford

Wait until you explore that there are Diesels out there that have a preheater with an open flame in the intract.
But it works too.

My grandfather had a tractor which had to be loaded with so called ignition cartridges prior to start it - like the old planes.

You have some military experience also?

Many new engines need cold start aids such as glow plugs or heater grids to meet emissions and well I won't go into keeping the green weenies happy .

My truck only smokes a little bit until it warms up, just about 5 minutes but not all smoke...it only smokes bad when I throttle it but after that it burns pretty clean.
