Default 2003 Ford 5.4L 7.3 Conversion?

i have a 03 f250 with the 5.4l gas, i want to put the 7.3 in it and i'm wondering how much it would cost me to get everything i need to put it in! Also can the 7.3 bolt up to the 5.4l gas trans? Or would it be a whole lot cheaper and easier to just get the cummins conversion kit with the cummins commonrail? Help Me out here! Thanks, Jesse

Default swap

You ever come up with any information about your swap? I've got a 02 f350 with a 5.4. Found a 96 powerstroke and I'm gearing up. Let you know what I find.

Not sure what trannies are like in that new of a truck, but the older IDI diesels won't bolt up to any of the older gasser trannies. The bellhousing patterns are too different for them to mate up. I would expect that is still probably true for the newer engines like the 5.4 liter.

If you're wanting to put a 7.3 in an 02 or 03 truck, just be sure to check the emissions laws in your state first. In Washington (where I live) you can't put an older engine into a newer vehicle. The engine has to be at least as new as the vehicle you're putting it into.

Of course that isn't true for all states, but if you haven't already, it would be a good idea to check your state laws before proceeding...

Default Swap

Ended up finding a wrecked, same year 7.3L. Start the swap pretty soon. Switch the IDM and and flash the computer for a manual. Let the transfer begin. The bell housings for a ZF 6 speed match up to both engines..

I've heard alot of people say the cummins swap can get a little pricey. I'm starting a swap from a donor truck wich seems to be the best way. Having every little piece you need. I'll post what problems I run into.

It will at least need an adapter plate, if it will even work. Why do you want to swap in an IDI? not worth it IMO

you'll need a 4r110 transmission for a diesel the computer junk diesel radiator, probably core support, engine mounts for a diesel, the diesel foot throttle if yours is a cable and a whole lot of odds and ins good luck

Will you need a computer since the 7.3 is a mechanical IDI?

And I think you mean 4R100, not 4R110
