Yea, I should be happy with those numbers considering I drive it like I stole it! Even though the front axle is vac disconect, it has some drag so a 2wd rig would do better. I guess I was supprised the city mpg's and hwy mpg's were the same. Can't wait to see how your's does!

Default glad you are moving..

Been watching a few of the builds. As mentioned in previous thread..I live in S.W. Wa. Kinda brought a grin to my face when you talked about the "white caps on the Columbia". Still working on the LD conversion I have mentioned. If I cannot get over 30mpg....I will build something different. For Christmas we went to Pasco...up the gorge...avg 26.8 mpg with gas in an awd Saturn vue loaded...with the wind factor. I had an Isuzu Amigo 4x4 diesel that did between 32-37mpg. Should have kept it. My jeep Cherokee does 19-21 on gas. So...not to be a puttz..your mileage is not spectacular.

Congratulations for a job well done. Will be interesting to see off road capabilities. I have quit a few photos....however cannot get them to post. Guess I have to write more...

I am happy with 26 in town, but haven't had time to check IP timing. I still think there is more mpg's to be had on the freeway. I might even swap IP's, I still think the Cali IP is not operating up to par, I have a spare. Also I think my Jeep is scrubbing some mpg's as well, it doesn't seem to coast as well as I would think, so there may be something there to fix. In the mean time I will just drive it like I stole it! I was on Craig's list the other day and a 55 Studebaker Commander was talking to me! I love that slippery body style!

Well, here's an update. I finally got around to swapping IP's, and now I wish I had done it long ago!! It runs like a completely different rig. Way more power, and now it doesn't act like it is starving for fuel at 70+mph. I had a feeling the emission IP was lacking. It took me a while to get the "drip" method of timing down, partly because I didn't relize we are timing the very begining of the fuel squeze, not the actual event of injection. The factory manual just assumes you already know this, thats why it didn't make sense at first. O-well, it just shows you that you learn something new every day! Now we'll see if it makes any improvement on fuel mileage.

No problem, I am in the process of doing the same, have the flywheel,pp,disc, and bell from a 240d. Are you using all this? I haven't gotten very far, just got lucky at the u-pull when I was getting a windshield. They had 2 at the time, went back to get the 2nd 2 days later and it got crushed!! O-well, snooze you loose. I am trying to mate it to my ranger 5spd, but have a lead on a t5 as well. I could give you some measurements. What did your t5 come out of? What are you putting it in?

FtE i wanted to ask have you been on long jeep trail rides like going 10-15 miles back into a canyon, and how does it do milage wise creaping along jeep trails---

it would
be interesting to know. semis dont use hardly any idling but driving around stop and go my 85 benz gets the worst milage and I cant get good unless on the hwy.
in other words would you have to carry less jerry cans with the 617 than with a jeep straight 6/efi w 4-5 speed. if you were heading where the diesel stations aren't.

No, I haven't done any serious trail riding, but so far it seems to do real well in town, mid 20's, even with the auto.

Default Received your IP change message.

Hey Dan...great to hear your pump change worked. When you were at my place we discussed the possibility of the electronic advance/retard device slowing you down.

I have my engine finally painted..the header built..block heater installed. Have way more manhours in the header than I want to admit. Waiting for a warm/dryer day to blast the header and "woodstove" heat paint it. Thinking I will try the 2wd mode and check mileage...them do 4wd and see the difference. Thinking about a stance like the new Grand Cherokee.

Fiddling with wiring and a/c install.

Checking out steering options...maybe go to independent front suspension. Alot of serious off road guys will not like this idea...oh well...we will see.
