I am very familiar with those small Cummins engines. They are used in all sorts of construction equipment including Case backhoes and crawler tractors from E series on. They use an SAE # 2 bellhousing (I believe it's #2) and adapting a trans to those is possible. I have seen many forklifts using Borg-Warner manual transmissions behind these critters with a great deal of success. Also, the Case backhoes use a Borg-Warner power shuttle (forward-reverse) so they might be the hot-spot to contact for your swap. Good luck, and have fun!
There were alot of bread/chip step vans that were converted over to the 4bt. Most of the GM chassis were auto t400 and the Ford chassis were manual. These would be a better source than const. equip. because of the govener. You want one already set up for a truck. Alot of the off-road guys have done this swap.
x2 FTE. Look for a box/bread/step van. I've seen a few of these 4bt jeeps driving around. The engine works out and fits so well it'll make you wonder why Mopar didn't try the setup themselves.
