04 chevy 2500hd cummins conversion
Great forum guys!!! I was surfing the net looking for conversion help and I found this great forum. I didnt realize that so many people are actually putting a cummins in bowties. Ive wanted to do this to my hd for some time. I do need some help from you conversion experts in here. My pickup is 04 chevy 2500hd 4x4 6.0 5spd. Can I keep my 5sp tranny in the truck? Are there bell housing conversions out there? What years out of dodge are the best to use?
Thanks,
Cameron

if i remember right it should be a nv 4500 5 speed so you'd just need the input and bellhousing off a nv4500 off a cummins 5 speed depends on the cummins tho 12 or 24 valve i'm not exactly sure tho other guys will be able to help more
The transmission is a ZF-5 speed. You can retain the manuel transmission set up, but you will need to convert to a Ford ZF-5 or dodge nV4500/5600. If you use the Ford ZF-5, you will need to get the adapter and flywheel spacer from Destoked. The hole in the floor will need to be modified as well due to the relocation of the trans/transfercase rearword about
4". The reason you won't be able to retain your GM ZF is because there isn't enough room for the larger clutch diameter/surface area that the Cummins will need.

What would you recommend the Ford ZF-5 or the Dodge nv4500/5600? What year of the 5.9 are the better years? Have you had any probs with your 05 chevy cummins swap with the frame or firewall?
