gen 1 in 99 24 v
i got a 99 1 ton dodge cheap with blown 24 v in it, want to put my gen 1 12 v in it other than doin away with all the computerized hoopla, will everything else work with the 99 harness
its got a rod stickin through the bottom of block guy i bought it from says he thinks crank is broke too,i dont know crank is broke for sure,i havent got into it yet, just thought it would be easier to put the 12 v in bein how i got it here and low miles, and its paid for
i am just the person u need to talk to
first off, if its a manual, it will be alot easier.
second, no matter what, the stock tach will not work.
third, if it is an auto, then u will have to rig up an overdrive switch, and a TC lock up switch.
fourth, u will need to get a external regulator for the altenator. the 99 goes through the ecm, and since the stock tach will not work, it will read that the motor is not running and wont switch the alt. on. and u cant hook it up straight to the battery, or it will over charge the batterys.
i put a 2nd gen 12v in my 99 is how i know about some of these problems. mine is an auto, so i have a lock up switch and overdrive switch. the electronics is the hardest part to get working. if ya got any questions u would like me to go into detail about, p.m. me.
thanks for reading and good luck

could you possibly swap the 24v head onto the 12v block and keep all the electronic stuff?
the head isnt where all the electronical parts is the problem. if ur meaning to keep the vp on the truck, then u would have to swap the front cover, the pump, and all other sensors, but i still dont think it would run, because u wouldnt have the hole in the block for the crank sensor, which is where the 99 get there tach reading from.
Yep i put a 03 crate cummins into a 01 truck. dang block cracked. what a job that was. ended up buying a autometer diesel tach that reads off the alternator. crazy how that thing works. i did not get the cruise to work either, and i had a 6spd man. this guy is a plethora of info fordcummins.com - Increase Horsepower with Ford Cummins Diesel conversion kits he'll answer questions.

The 1st gen dont really use and wiring harness to speak of... Getting teh engine running would be easy, getting all you gayges to work not so much.
