Theres quite a bit of difference between those body style trucks. If you need help with your swap let me know.

As Screaminseema has mentioned, there is quite a bit of differance between my truck 1981 and your 2001. so as far as actual fitment goes, I can't really help you there. I built my mountd myself, and I would assume (You know what they say about people who assume) that you could build a set of your own fairly easily. There is a company (I forget the name) who is building mounts for the never Chevy trucks. If I remember right, they cost somewhere around $500, but I could be mistaken. I personally would build them myself rather then dish out the money for prefabbed mounts (That money could go a long way toward buying other parts you will need). As for what engine to use in your truck, it really depends on where you live. Here in California All gasoline vehicals 1976 and newer have to pass a smog inspection every 2 years and beginning next year all diesel vehicals 1998 and newer will as well. Assuming that you live here (Or someplace that also requires smog) you would have to use an engine of the same year as your truck or newer. In your case 2001 or newer engine. That limits your choices. I personally like the simplicity of the older 12 valve engines. They require no computer to run and have HUGE horsepower potential. My engine is a 1995. The only thing the computer did was run the voltage regulator for the alternator and control the lockup of the torque converter in an automatic transmission. Both systems can be work around without a computer quite simply and cheaply. I simply had an internal voltage regulator installed into the factory Dodge alternator by a local alternator/starter repair shop. It cost me $40. As for the transmission, I am running an NV4500 which is a manual transmission so I didn't need the computer for it. However a lot of the Cummins swap guys do use the automatic transmission and simply use a toggle switch to control towque converter lockup. They just engage it once on the freeway. If you do end up using a 2001 or never engine, it will technically bolt in the same as my 12 valve engine did, however there are alot more computer controls. You would also have to install any and all emissions equipment used in the truck that the engine came out of. I chose an older truck that was origenally a diesel from the factory. And since here in California beginning next year, only Diesel pickups built in 1998 and after will be required to have a smog test, I will not have to worry about that. Do yourself a HUGE favor and find out what the smog laws are in yor state, contact the highway patrol and figure out exactly what will be required of you durring inspection BEFORE you begin an engine swap. It would suck to finish up a project as large as this, only to find out that it is not smog legal and therefore impossable to register. Good luck with the build, keep us informed as to your decission. I'm willing to offer advice and share experiances with you if you need. Good luck.

hey there, im just about to start the installation of a 94 cummins 12v into my 1981 chevy 4x4 ...the truck has a 3" body lift and a 4" suspension lift. i was hoping you could give me any pointers on the placement of the engine mounts in the chevy frame. this is the only part of the build that has me held back thus far. possible pics of the mounts you built?
