Digging alittle deeper, it does seem that way. I can barely find any info on people using these. Seems like a no brainer at this point! Only tough part would be motor mounts.

Hi,
New here and I have done a basic search but does anyone make an adapter kit to mate the om617 to the aw4 using the jeep torque converter?
I would be using an adapter to shift the aw4 instead of using the TCU.

What kind of "adapter"? The AW4 shifting is really pretty simple to control. IIRC it has 4 shift solenoids - 3 for forward gears and one for reverse. Energize solenoid 1 and it goes into 1st, de-energize solenoid 1 and energize solenoid 2 to shift into 2nd, energize 1 and 2 to get 3rd, and energize all 3 forwardd solenoids to get OD. De-energize all 3 forward solenoids and energize the reverse solenoid to shift to reverse.

That may not be exactly right, but its something very similar to that and just that simple. The details should be pretty easy to dig up online. Once you know the details it shouldn't be too hard to make a tip-tronic type "clutchless manual" shifting setup - or even a standard H pattern "clutchless manual" arrangement...

I drove the MerJeep to work , first trip going that far(12 miles one way). Last night I flushed some seafoam through it and changed the fuel filters, the engine ran quite a bit smoother. On the way home from work, it ran rougher and was ticking. I am going to do a valve adjustment tomorrow and see if that helps. It may just need to be ran for a while, I don't know how long the car sat before I got it. All in all, i'm very happy with it so far. Thanks again to all of you for your assistance, I appreciate it.

Yup thats what I have found basically too. Although I think there are only 3 solenoids and a locking Torque converter. Clutchless manual shift is fine for me'
What I need to find is someone who has adapters to mate the AW4 to the OM617. Anyone who knows of an adapter that is proven I would love to hear from you.

Sorry for the thread drift BTW.

I think you're probably going to have to build your own - or have it built locally.
