94 F150 CONVERSION--
hey guys i have a 1994 F150 with a 4.9 and something happen the computer because i have no radio, no speedometer,no odometer, and the shift points for the trans are all screwed up. so i figured im young im mechanically inclined so why not put a diesel in it. i can get my hands on a 7.3 for practically nothing and i was going to do it, but i wanted to do some last minute research and thank god i did.everyone is telling me to go with the 3.9 cummins but im not sure what i should do-- what do you think i should do powertrain wise?
7.3 would be cool bug its a big friggen motor. You'd probably be looking at a bigger axle under the front end and reworking the frame and of course different springs. I could be totally wrong though. You'd have to check the weight ratings. Anything can be done if you have patience.
FastCR is right, those of 7.3L PS's are big, tipping the scale at 900+lbs it still has nothing on a 5.9L Cummins but a 3.9 Will be less and MUCH easier to fit in your engine bay.
For the 4BT Cummins you have a lot of choice's for transmissions, whatever tickles your fancy either will bolt up, or there is an adapter available or able to be made. You can still make really decent power for a 4cyl and still be very reliable.
