Any first gen injectors will work but there are a few things you should try first, if you havent already. Play with the star wheel, get a fuel pin, and 3200 rpm springs. Those 3 alone will wake up a 4bt. After that you should look at an hx35 turbo and intercooler.

We run a bunch of p-3000 pumped 4bt's (air-water aftercooled) on our drills. With and without the counterbalancer they are a little shakey, but definately not going to destroy anything.

They, for some reason have a tendancy to jump around madly at certain rpm/load, that has caused a few issues with engine mounts. We have been working with cummins on it for a while and cannot figure out what it is, the rpms at which it does it are never constant and with a slight change in rpms it clears up....

But, all in all, they have been a fairly decent engine to us. Alot of our 4bts have gone 14,000+hrs running 22+hrs a day for almost 365 days a year and for the most part ride the governer @ WOT!

One word of caution, buy a cummins reman as a last resort. We have had nothing but quality issues with their reman'd engines. we had 3 in a row fall apart on us and the costs to us was hundreds of thousands of dollars and cummins was giving us a hard time over warranting the pieces of junk...

Hi everyone. New here but not new to the diesel conversion process. I got an invite to join here. Looks like a nice site with many ready to help each other with information and new ideas. I dropped a 4BTA into an '85 dODGE rAM w150 Prospector that I hauled up from Abilene Tx.
Mine is turned up and dyno'd at 181 hp and 370 lb. ft. It is a real blast to drive turned up. and get my kicks out of having to reconnect my boost pipes after i blow them off at 27 psi.
I noticed people talking about excessive vibrations. They are tamable; I did it by adding a fluidic harmonic ballancer from a 6bt and designing my own mounts from modified 6BT rubber inserts. basically I set an angle on the mounts that resists side to side engine movement and drilled 15 1/4" holes horizontally through the rubber of each mount. My mirrors are very still; no blurred image. I can post pics later as soon as I reasize them to match this site's size requirements.
Other things I added:
1. HY35W turbo (very fast spoolup)
2. Dodge NV4500 5 speed
3. 2001 dodgoe ram clutch and brake pedal ***'y
4. Hydroboost brakes
5. 6BT air horn and heater grid
6. 4" stainless exhaust.
7. Air bags
8. one extra lift spring all around.
9. Digital rpm, egt, boost guage that my brother designed with peak recorded values storage and alarm capability for each channel.
10. '98 Ford remote diesel oil filter.
11. Sound-proofed inside cab and on inside of firewall. Floor has 3 layers of roofing shingles glued down with urethane adhesive for a very quite ride. transfer case shifter and manual tranny shifter boost backed with felt soundproofing

I found my first Dyno run video.
Sounds like an airplane engine reving up.

Also found one of my photos of an engine mount and the angle I built into it to reduce engine vibs. the round posts are for the A/C pump mounting

Default my durango

i just bought a durango with high miles and was considering a diesel swap. i read that the 5.9 is too big and heavy but its what i wanted but reading this thread it looks like a 3.9 would be the best way to go. I have done alot of s10 motor swaps to 350 and one mercedes diesel into a mighty maxx (very interesting) so any advice would help because i am trying to get this started in june.

The front ends on those smaller trucks were never designed to handle the weight and your front end components will wear our quickly....or more dangerously, BREAK outright while driving!

I have a '93 Ranger myself, and after having a 4BT in my F250 I would never put that engine in a smaller truck. You could probably pick the rear bumper right off the ground after that swap.

I am "kind of" looking for a nice 3.3 liter Cummins 4BT instead, but am also running across the occasional Kubota turbo V3300 engine and will probably do that instead. (also 3.3 liter) You can bomb a Kubota engine to at least 2-1/2 times their original power, they are tough little buggers.
How much does the 3.3 weigh ? tell us more about that. Same with the Kubota, I know they make good engines to.

now i heard that before but seen a couple of dakotas with it in them.....i am really opened minded at this time so more info on the kubota would be cool but would it be possible if i did a single axle swap as well. but like i said i am very opened i had just seen alot with dakota swaps and the durango is the same thing frame and underneath wise. really any info would help because i really want to do somethen, but do want it to be a safe daily driver so i do really appreciate that info
