the front end will be the biggest draw back dumping the Cummins in a chevy setup, IMO body swaps are the way to go because the drive line science is already done. Then Its just a matter of cab mounts and linkage with a bit of wiring and the brakes. Provided you or someone is a competent welder to safely make the cab perches.
I have a 58 GMC 9380. I was pondering swapping it to a 2001 reg cab short box. Womdering if you may have insight on this?

Sorry for the long response time. Ask away. I hope you found your traction to get it off the ground. Its very simple. 3 Wire the ECM and the rest is strait forward peripherals in your case.. for the 58 cab its mounts are narrower so it would be a matter of inboard perches. Very doable.
I love the idea and I’m pretty sure I’m going to do it this year I have both trucks 01 2500 24v and a 04 Silverado my only gripe is the cab being so high what needs to be done to lower it? Cut into it? This will be my work truck so I don’t want it too “lifted”

sweet!
I didn’t have a 2 post at the time I mounted the cab to the chassis. Theirs definitely a few inches that could be had regarding the distance to frame. But for the front wheels to line up in the wells it going to sit fairly high regardless. Also the truck was built around 40” tires with no sheet metal trimming so its really a blank canvas.
