is there blowby in the crank case???? cause its hard to mess a hone job up that bad, ive seen cylinders not even honed and they hold compression just fine......850 horsepower gas pulling truck engine......you might want to have a shop look at it before you write the engine off.....

I did have a shop look at it Texas power and diesel informed me that it wouldn't hold enough compression to start ; they said it would build to about 200 psi while turning over. I'm not sure I've about had all I can stand when it comes to this engine. I have a compresson tester, guess I should check it to make sure they are not trying to hose me on it

If it is having problems starting then it sounds like what they are telling you could be correct. Maybe the guys that honed it honed it too far and the rings have too much gap and there is too much piston clearance now. It isn't hard to over hone if you do not pay attention to detail. Most professional machine shops will bore the cylinder to about .004" less than the desired bore size and hone it to the desired bore size. On the 1st gen swap, it is going to take a lot of little stuff to get everything to work right and honestly you can find a used engine cheaper and it will be a lot faster to get the truck back up and running again.
