HOW TO MAKE A CUMMINS A STAND ALONE
I have an '01 Ram 2500, and I have installed an '05 Cummins 5.9L engine into the truck. The conversion is complete, but how do I make the engine a "stand-alone unit" from the truck. The '05 engine's wiring harness will not plug into the '01 truck (different plugs). I have a garage that says they can do it, but for general information, how is it going to be done? the person willing to do it says that he cannot tell me until he sees it. I understand that I could get an '05 truck wiring harness and fuse box and do it myself, but I do not feel confident in my electrical abilities to do that. I am also told that I will need "mechanical gauges to measure the engine systems. Is that true as well? Why can't the '01's truck gauges be able to hook up to the engine and measure the appropriate systems? Any information will be greatly appreciated.
