Wow sorry to here about the motor. I didn't realize you were running the tdi turbo. It's way to small for that motor. The ko3 I was running was about twice the size just so you know for the next motor. Way to much back pressure

Yes the lower ends are the same but you will have to change the fuel system, including the injector camshaft.

I found a good idi without a head I can get nice and cheap then I just need pistons, rings and gaskets. This way I avoid any machining work

Well I found some time over the holidays to get my truck back together, this time with a K03 and glowshift 3in1. However now I seem to be fighting a power issue, I can barely get the truck up to 80 km/h and it won't pull at all in 5th. I'm running 20 psi peak boost atm but my egts will easily go to 1050F if I let them. What kind of numbers is everyone else running? I know other guys can easily cruise at 65 mph so what am I doing wrong?

Another issue is my fuel system loses prime after shutdown if I leave it for a few hours. I don't think it's my filter or lift pump and I have the fuel bleeding tap shut. Any suggestions? I'm trying to keep an eye on the oil level in case fuels getting in the oil but I think my hot side turbo seal is leaking excessively.

For now I am playing with intercoolers, looks like I might be able to get a deal on a first gen cummins intercooler that I could make fit with a little cutting and hacking

Did you back out the rack limit screw about 2 turns, Did you change your governor spring to a stiffer spring?
my basic rpm and temp #'s are 65mph is 1900rpm 830egt, 70mph 2040rpm 860egt. 75mph is 2250, 990egt. 80mph is at the top of the powerband I guess at 2300sh.

I backed it out maybe one turn altogether, I just kept backing it out quarter turns till the egts got too high on me. yes I have a stiffer spring, it'll rev to at least 3500 rpm if I let it. what kind of boost are you running? I think your gears are even steeper than mine, I rev at 2800 around 120 km/h which is about 75 mph so my gearing can't be an issue

I am confused, are you at 80kmh, or 120kmh. 2800 rpm for 75, is way out of the happy range in my opinion. What sort of EGT and boost are you running around the 2000 rpm area. Maybe you are just way under geared. and how does it pull as it runs through the 1800-2250 rpm range. For me the powerband or happy area seems to be between about 1800 and 2250. It will run just fine at a little higher rpm, but does not seem to like it near as much.
For me Boost is all about load, flat road rarely over 5-6 at lower hwy speed, when I get up in the 70's mph a little under 10 to maybe 12. max boost for me so far has been about 22 ish my wastegate starts to open about 22.5. I really have to be loading the crap out of it to see those high boost #'s. Normal driving on the hwy usually never over 10psi.
I am running a 3.07 gear set with a .79OD, and 225/75/15 tire that is about 27" dia. as measured. I will be switching to a 2.71 gear set when I get home from work in March.

Sounds like you need to track down your fuel leak.

I was loosing prime at the IP through an O-ring under the fuel line holder, you might check that. If you're see fuel dampness at the lines it's leaking.

You're not building enough boost you should be in the high 20's.

I did run into a timing issues with my older DI engine, but that caused excessive smoke but it did have good power.

Are you getting smoke? You should be able to turn that screw out and get plenty of smoke if you're getting enough fuel. Don't be afraid to turn that screw out just watch your EGT's.

You are running a DI engine right??
