Default Is it a good deal or not

I have the opportunity to buy a v2203 with a bent rod and a cracked head for around 5 hundy. He says it runs other than that. Im not sure what it would cost to repair it versus buying a surplus motor from a reefer unit like everyone else. This came out of. A skid steer with around 6k hours.

I guess that would depend on whether it's IDI or DI, and the condition of the rest of the engine. I haven't priced them, but heads can be spendy too. Where are you located? I haven't completely made up my mind on what I want to do with it, but if your close enough to get it we may be able to work a deal on my extra 2203 that melted down the pistons. The head and bottom end should be ok, but I haven't had them checked.

Oh, that would be expensive shipping for a dead engine.

Personally, I think I'd pass on this engine. It's one thing to put a solid running 6k hr engine into a vehicle, but this one will probably need some serious work beyond the known broken parts.

I would say it's not a good deal. How much is a new rod and a new head? Can you do the work yourself? If not, I imagine it would be alot more $$ to repair that one than to pick up one that's in good running condition. I got my V2203 in good running condition for $1300, I imagine you could find them cheaper.

1200-1300 is what I expect to pay for a decent one. This one came up on a search but didnt have its ailments listed until I got an email from the guy. Ive been lookin for reefer units out here but have yet to come across any. Kinda hopin for the v3300 find but Im probably just spinnin my wheels. I know theres nothing wrong with the 2203 and will probably get better economy anyway

I got mine from EnginMon out in Missouri I believe. They had one local to me here in Socal, so I just drove and picked it up, no shipping charge.

Looks like they have a DI 2203, but no 3300 right now.
