Did you need the dual fan setup? Were you having temperature issues? I'm always freaking out about temperature living in AZ. Really want to run A/C, but not at the expense of running hot.

I went back and forth on this for a long time. Mechanical vs electric, a mechanical fan will always move more air at equal RPMs then an electric. The problem I encountered was 1: the Mercedes mechanical fan did not lock up at lower RPM. 2: only the upper portion of the fan pulls from the radiator so the clutch is not exposed to the hottest air, thus contributing to problem #1. 3: I could not find a cost effective way to properly shroud the fan. All of the above never led to an overheat situation, what it did cause was big temp fluctuations. The electric fans solved the fluctuating problem and ultimately pull more air through the radiator and condenser at idle and low speed due to constant RPM and proper shrouding. I highly recommend the electrics for this combo. Hope this helps.

Just read through your whole thread, im very impressed with it! Your the first person that ive seen be able to use the original tachometer. I have a YJ and am dying to put one in my jeep and have been on the look out for a motor. Maybe ill be able to do it this summer but i know i will eventually. Awesome Jeep! I am very jealous!:tu:

Hey evenglass I have a 1986 Comanche and I'm doing the Mercedes swap. I'm not really sure how to come up with a plan on the engine mounts. And also I want ac cause I live in palm beach county. So I don't know exactly how I'm going to create a bracket like u did. Do you have any drive line vibrations or any deliverability issues from the swap? Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Motor mounts; remove Mercedes mount arms from block, make flat plate to bolt to block where old arms went, lower place engine where you want it then project a line straight from the plate on the block to the frame and mark a line, build mount bucket with motor mount and adjust bucket with mount to the line you made on the frame. Take into acount 2 things; the mounting surface on the left side of the block is angled slightly upward and compression of motor mount.

With the AC just keep it as tight and high to the left side of the block as possible.

No vibes or driveability issues at all. Just make sure you gear appropriately basically lowest gears possible 4.56 or 4.88.

Koch enterprises has cherokee Comanche mounts available now. Thier rubber mount looks a little small though. Mine is a five speed cherokee and I am still trying to get the vibes down but they are not bad.

Here are the mounts I made using the mercedes mounts with some up stops. They are soft and let the motor move around alot.

Those look really good, alot like mine. I started with the Mercedes mounts but they collapsed within months. You should be able to modify your bucket to accept the hydraulic Corvette mounts. What vibes are you getting?
