Default Cold start advance

Hey there,
1st post!
My diesels cold start advance cable frayed and broke. Am i going to hurt anything by not fixing it?

Its an '85 ford escort diesel, bosch "ve" style pump, the cold start advance is a vacuum operated dealio, and the cable attaching the diaphram to the lever on the pump broke. Runs like **** below 1200 rpm and wont idle when cold, which doesn't bother me. Also harder'n hell to start, but thats normal for this thing.

BTW awesome site and thanks for any info in advance. I made a bumper for a friends '03 cummins dually Man Trans. Drew heavily from threads on here for inspiration, and made good money.

Thanks!

Is your car is a 1.6 L

Ive read you can run it with out the cold start advance cable by taking off that cable and replacing it with a seal, and advance the timing so it make the engine easier to start.

welcome to the DB.
