Default Intermittent engine stalling

I have a Ford E350 turbo diesel 7.3 van. It was a school bus. The engine has 50,000 miles on it. Starts and runs good BUT, it will die on me as if the fuel were shut off. This may happen 4 or 5 times in a quarter mile and then run great for 40 miles. It will start quickly or within a few minutes. I was told to change the fuel filter. I bought a filter cartrige but I cannot find the filter canister on the van. So first off can someone tell me where the filter is located and do you have any suggestions as to why the engine stops intermittently.
Thanks,
Jerrylm

Default some help!

The fuel filter is located in the valley of the motor just like all 7.3L it is a real pain in the a$$ to get to on a van, take the air cleaner assembly and hose off from the front of the van. they make a tool with four tabs that you can attach to a 3/8 ratchet to loosen the cap, helps alot in the van were room is an issue. as for your problem, a fuel filter is a great idea but the most common cause for your sudden shut down is the cam sensor. its located at 11oclock if your looking at the harmonic balancer. 10mm bolt holding it in just wiggle to loosen then put a flat blade behind it to pop it out. hope this helps
