Got a call from the ECU shop this morning. The ECU was shot... tons of cold soldier joints and a bad processor chip

The ECU is repaired, reprogrammed, flashed and will be in my hands in two days... so my fingers are crossed that after 7 months of down time and almost 3k worth of "shade tree mechanic" fees the truck will finally be fixed

Ok so I got the ECU back yesterday.

The tech who worked on the ECU told me that he had to replace the processor, some cold soldier joints and that it had a short to ground....

I put the ECU on the truck, fired it up and same thing...

Truck still starts and idles with a dead pedal and will tach up to 1340 rpm... still have a p1689 DTC

Gonna completely remove the wiring harness today along with the PDC and see if I can find some bad wiring somewhere

Is there ANYONE on these forums who has had this code and symptoms before that has successfully diagnosed and repaired the issue?... I am in dire straights here and really need some input

You might try and change out the fuel relays in the PDC under the hood. Just use one of the others to see if the current one is bad.

The p1689 code is 'No communication between ECM & Injection Pump Module'.

Try here: P1689-No-Communication-Between-ECM-and-Injection-Pump-Module

hey stodg is there any way you could re post a cleaner pic of the pdc cover please? I have tried to save it and clean it up a bit to make it more readable but haven't had any luck

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I give up...

I have replaced the VP44...

I had the ECU rebuilt (still don't know if they did it correctly), they said they replaced the processor, fixed a short to ground, reprogrammed and flashed...

I have cleaned ALL of the grounding points...

I have repaired the breaks in the data link wires between the ECU and VP44...

I have removed the wiring harness, completely unwrapped it and checked for broken, shorted and/or melted wires...

I have no shorts between the data link wires and/or shield...

I have .1-.2 ohm resistance on both data link wires...

Truck still starts and idles just fine. The instant you touch the accelerator it jumps from idle to about 1340rpm... the same freaking thing the truck has been doing the entire time...

So... anyone need any parts from a '99 2500 4x4 automatic?

New parts include;

VP44
FASS lift pump
APPS sensor
New Tires

You should be able to see all of the relays and fuses now.
