Default Help! 2005 cummins PO192 code no run

So, I have a 2004 dodge ram 3500 with a 2005 cummins motor in it... Anyone see the problem here? Yep you guessed it fuel pump deleted.

So this has been running this way fine for more then 50k, and I didn't worry about it. because the duramax has run without a lift pump.

Now... Problems

It acts like it is starving for fuel runs horrible some times, dies, idles fine for a bit maybe. won't start three times then will start and idle fine. Drives fine for a bit then really starts sounding real loud dieseling (like my dads old ,92 cummins) then it might die, or resolve itself and be good for a couple hundred yards.

I have come to the assumption that I probably need a fuel lift pump so start there right. what is the cheapest way to do this? I have no mods on it I had a quadzilla that is currently disconnected..

I read where some people have installed a walbro 392 inline Is that the way to go? Does anyone have any pics of the fuel lines or a description of how to do this install.

BTW I changed the fuel filter right away, two day ago to remove that from the equation

So, today I both confirmed there was no lift pump, as well as added an aftermarket one on the frame rail in front of the filter canister. An airtex diesel pump rated at 10-15 psi output.

This didn't do anything for the problem, if anything it is getting very much worse.

I know this is a very generic non-descriptive problem something along the lines of "my truck is broke? What is wrong with it" kinda thread. for that I apologize. So I think I will ask some more specific questions. The kind that a short answer will suffice

Has anyone had a C3P common rail injection pump go out? How did it fail? Can it send metal through the system?

Is there a simple way to diagnose The Injection pump?

You need to scan it for codes.

You cant do anything without a scanner.

I did that yesterday with a obd2 code reader. It had two codes in it PO192, and PO628

Is this not the right scanner? What is a good scantool?

OK, so the truck is still sitting in my shop as no one will touch a 2004 truck with a 2005 motor in it. I have narrowed it (I think) Down to the Fuel Rail Pressure sender being bad. Does anyone know the resistance values or a test procedure for the fuel pressure sender?

Here's kind of an abrigded test. verify 5 volt supply at pink and yellow wire key on engine off(koeo) if ok reconnect and clear codes koeo while monitoring faults unplug sensor if p0193 sets replace sensor other test are basicly verifying wireing integrity but would also get proper fuel supply to cp3 pump hope this helps note: vt/rd=sig. return cav.#1 cav.#53, brn/yell.= sensor signal cav.#2 cav#12 pnk/yell.=5volt supply cav.#3 cav#54.

Another thing to try if the scan tool you have has data reading ability. KOEO read what your fuel pressure is. It should be zero.

After much diagnosis I decided to order a fuel rail pressure sensor. Put it in and truck runs great. I also mounted a frame rail airtex diesel rated fuel pump. As well as confirmed that this truck indeed did not have a lift pump.

I am so happy the rest of the injection system was fine.
