Hey everyone,

I have a 2000 Dodge 5.9L. It's all stock except for a strait pipe. When I first got the truck I had a problem with the lift pump. I installed a new pump and a dummy light. The other day I noticed my dummy light was starting to flash while driving on the interstate. When I got it back to the shop I replaced the lift pump again and I installed a new filter. I then went out for a test run and the dummy light was still flashing. Next I went to the Parker store and got a fuel pressure gauge to replace the dummy light. At idle I got around 12psi, at normal driving conditions I got about 8 psi and at hard or wot I only got around 6 psi. I know the stock lift pumps are pretty much junk out of the box however I'm not sure that is my problem. Where is a good place to start looking for a fuel pressure loss? Is there anything in the tank that could be causing this? Another point is that a few weeks ago my sending unit for the fuel gauge is a bit off about 1/4 of a tank. Dose that indicate a problem in the tank other than just the sending unit? If anyone knows anything about this or has had this problem any information would be helpful.

 

As youve seen - the dummy light is useless.

The problem here is the crappy carter OEM lift pump. They are worse than ever. The sending unit in the tank has nothing to do with this.

Its not all bad - at least you didnt pay $1000+ to have one installed in your tank like some people have.

Hmm ok so what are some of the better options for aftermarket lift pumps?

 

Theres lots of options - Fuel Boss (Mechanical), Airdog, FASS. The full systems with the filters are worth the extra $$. But there are units like the Raptor and fass version (the name escapes me).
