Default 1998 24v cummins help

ok guys my truck started not running so great .loss of power and rough idle i changed fuel filter did better for about a day and back to the runnin crappy.took it to autozone and brought up a p1389 code.and a guy told me to clean the air temp sensor i did that and it ran a lil better.but still dont have a lot a power and i noticed my wait to start light isnt working sometimes it will blink on and sometimes it wont.and my volt meter takes a min to build up when i first crank it.any ideas thanks aaron

the code 1389 said it could be no voltage to pcm from asd relay or glow plug circuit high side low input

I'm not finding P1389 in my book. Is that the correct code?

Checked fuses?

yea thats the number is p1389 yea i checked the relays under the hood switched the asd relay with another one but no change code says no asd relay voltage at pcm ecm commanded on the asd relay and detected and open or shorted condition thanks aaron

Apps reset? Also, do the key on off three times code search and see what it says, autozone uses crappy readers sometimes. And make sure you wait to see what the pcm and ecm say, itll say done and then read the second computer next

couldn't get it to do the key trick, looked up on it does not work on my year truck..Thanks Aaron

the key trick only works on 2000 and newer.

Even though the code shows something else, you have the classic symptoms of a dying VP44...
It could be just bad grounds or connections at the ECM/PCM however; so I would start by cleaning those...
Let us know what happens.

Yeah, forgot about that, been too long since I had a 2nd gen. Also, a lot of people would say do an apps reset, though I've never seen that work. I would also check fuel pressure coming from the lift pump. If it's not working that would cause issues, including shelling the vp
