Default charging and shifting problem

okay so my truck is a 97 dodge 2500 4x4 it is shifting with a pulsing between gears like the solwnoids are bad and it also is putting 17.1 volts to the batterys alternator is good pcm replaced all grounds seem to be connected i cant figure out this charging problem and betterys are brand new need some advice on this thanks guys

If it's charging at 17.1 volts, IMHO that is too high. Have you taken the alt. off to have it checked or simply used a volt/multimeter or going by the truck's gauge?

If it's overcharging, which I believe it is, that could possibly be causing the shifting problem.

I'm no expert but the newer vehicles with all the electronics they have, I'd say get the alternator checked and go from there.
