Question Turbo compressor housing leak

Just put an HE351 on my '01 Cummins, and it required clocking the compressor housing. Problem is that where the compressor housing meets the center housing (retained by a ridiculously large, hard to remove snap-ring) it leaks boost pressure. I sure didn't notice any sort of sealer between the two pieces when I disassembled it, but I'm wondering if I could take it apart again and use a thin smear of silly-cone?

Any ideas?

Thanks for helping!

if i recall correctly you can buy a gasket for that. i'm not going to say that the silicon will or will not work but with the tolerances on these new turbos i would disassemble the compressor housing and make sure the mating surfaces are clean and aligned properly. also make sure that the big snap ring is seated properly in the groove.

Everything was pretty clean and the snap ring is certainly seated all the way. I know there was no gasket when I pulled it apart, and I'm not sure if the snap ring would seat if there was a gasket in there (I don't think the extra thickness of the gasket wouldn't leave room for the ring.)

It leaks where the gap in the snap ring is, but I'm assuming the leak would just follow the gap if I turned the ring...
