Default 05 1/2 cummins with hole in block

Hey guys, I am new to this forum but have been driving dodges for a long time. My current truck is a 05 1/2 dodge 3500 4x4 drw with a smarty junior chip. The other day my oil pressure guage started falling to zero but when I would rev the motor up it would go back to normal. I decided to take the truck to the shop immediately. On the way to the shop the truck shut down completely, but started again in a few minutes. I made it about another 1/4 of a mile before I heard a pop and pulled over to find alot of oil around the driverside front wheel. After futher inspection I found a hole in the block where the rod had come through into the starter on the #5 cylinder. My question has several parts. I have never had a cummins that I took better care of, so I know it wasnt from bad maintenance. However my mechanic said this is the 5th 05 cummins that he has seen do this exact thing. Can it be caused from an injector sticking open and has anyone else heard or experienced this. I am thinking of going back with a jasper reman motor b/c you can no longer get a brand new 5.9 being as cummins quit making them to my knowlede. Any input on the Jasper motor would be appreciated as well. Oh yeah, this is a work truck not a hot rod. My truck and trailer weigh 18K empty and I regularly put 20K+ on the trailer, so it gets used. Will a reman hold up?

an injector may have stuck open filled the piston up with fuel. it hydrauliced and broke a rod. my uncle had this happen with only 45,000 miles on the truck. knocked the starter off the flyweel adapter. i dont know anything about the jasper engines. may search on craigslist and see if you could find a used engine

Engine out of warranty? Cummins warranty is 5 years - 100,000 miles.

There has been cases of this happening on other
cr rods. Had nothing to do with fuel filling cly.
I switched my rods, to 99 24 v rods.

Sometimes it just happens. I have ran the Jasper rebuilds on gas engines and there ok. I don't know how they are on diesel. I only had one I ever had to rebuild I did myself. Remember an explosion is an opportunity for improvement.

Yeah 130K original miles, no fuse unplug, so its out of warranty. Yeah I thought about the improvement area also, probably going to go with some different injectors and an electric fan, anybody else used them? Do they help you run cooler?
